Strategy

Successful trading comes hand in hand with sound trading strategies.  A trading strategy is a plan on why a trader will take a position, when a trader will take a position, and for how long a trader will keep a position.  A trading strategy combines entry levels, exit levels,  and money management to solidify a plan for a trader that will eliminate some of the pure speculating out of the decision making process.  Some traders follow a trading strategy to a tee and leave no room for changes in the markets.  Other traders will have flexible trading strategies, which can be successful, but can also play on the emotions of a trader in a way that a rigid trading strategy will not.

Trading strategies can be accomplished in multiple asset classes.  Additionally there are trading strategies that use derivatives to accomplish initiating risk.  The most common derivative trading strategies are in the options markets.  The option market is a class on its own and allows a  trader to take multiple types of positions to initiate risk for a particular view.
